My Favorite Places to Fish
San Diego Area
1) Tamarack Beach
Tamarack Beach – Actually this beach is called Carlsbad State Park / Beach, but the local surfers call it “Tamarack”. If you go to www.surfline.com there is a “Live” camera image of this beach. So you can check it out before even leaving home!! I’ve only fished this spot a couple of times and caught at least one Undersized Halibut each time. Spots “One and Three” next to the Jetties are good for Halibut. I see a lot of people bait fishing Spot “Two” However; I’ve never made the connection in this spot. Don’t even waste your time where I put the “X” Very fast currents rip thru there, you’ll just lose your flies!!

Directions
are simple: I-5 to Tamarack Head West. When you hit Carlsbad Blvd look a bit to
the left of the light you’ll see a driveway down to the parking area.
Parking Tip: It just better to go in circles around this lot until someone
leaves. The alternative is to park on Tamarack.
